Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 722 Edition

By: James Rothaar for LxM
The stylish, suave, and faster-than-ever Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 722 Edition is receiving a lot of attention these days. Unfortunately, MBZ’s official Web site has no info on the McLaren SLR 722. The Web site only has information on the 2006 McLaren SLR. The beastly SLR 722 made its world premiere September 2006 at the Paris Motor Show. However, since only 150 of the SLR 722 Editions will be made, it may be somewhat difficult to pick up a new one.

Per McLaren’s press release, the five-speed-automatic SLR 722 has over 300 improvements compared to its predecessor. Horsepower is up to 650 from 617, resulting in a zero-to-62 mph (100km/h) rate of 3.6 seconds. Its top speed has increased, as the handmade, 5.5-liter supercharged V-8 exceeds 209 mph.

Additionally, the suspension has been refined with stiffer dampers, and the body has been lowered just a tad. The interior has a sportier new look too.

Mercedes-Benz’s Web site list the price of the base model of the 2006 McLaren SLR at just over $452,000. The McLaren SLR 722 Edition is listed at around $525,000. Compared to other cars deemed to be in the same class, such as the Lamborghini Murciélago Coupe and the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish S Coupe, it is more than a second faster than the Aston Martin from zero to 60 mph, and around 2 mph faster than the Lamborghini’s top speed. Keep that in mind the next time you are driving 207 mph. Price-wise, it is no contest, as the SLR 722 is twice as expensive as the Vanquish, and 80 percent more than the Lamborghini.

The MBZ McLaren SLR 722 Edition’s name is a tribute to Sir Stirling Moss, who drove an MBZ SLR 300 to the winner’s circle at the 1955 Mille Miglia race. The vehicle driven by Moss remains on display today at the Mercedes-Benz Museum at Stuttgart-Untertürkheim.

Review Of 2007 Hyundai Sonata

By: Rex Freiberger
Hyundai Sonata Review

It’s difficult to imagine, but Hyundai worries that even if it has one of the highest customer faithfullness ratings in the industry, attracting new purchasers into the showroom has been a real challenge. The new Sonata slogan is: “A Hyundai you’ve never seen before" and it is true that the Sonata which was redesigned has more power, more space and better fit and finish than it has ever had previously.

Its Advantages are:

- Acceleration
- The possibility to avoid accidents
- Comfort and convenience
- Gas mileage

There are two acceptable disadvantages:

- Suspension noise
- Handling

Reliability and Maintenance

The Sonata is easy to take care of, with very little in the way of programmed maintenance until 100,000 miles is reached, unlike oil changes at regular intervals.

It is backed by one of the longest powertrainn warranties in the automotive industry at 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Performance and Handling

The new Sonata is adequately equipped with a standard 4-cylinder which offers 162HP. The 3.3-liter V6 with 234HP is smooth but responsive and reaches average speed with little effort.

Acceleration is brisk in the four-cylinder and it is surprising in the V6. Hyundai officials say the V6 will turn 0-60 miles per hour times of about 7.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 130 mph. Shifts are executed easily with the five-speed manual, and the front tires are chirped even more easily. Kicking down for passing with minimal hesitation, the Shiftronic automatic transmission moves between gears smoothly. When the engine bumps up against redline, and it declines to downshift at all, leaving that to the driver’s preferences,in manual mode, the Shiftronic will upshift automatically.

It provides more room and power than previous years. However, there is a least favourite feature, cheap interior look with fewer features, and new external redesign. But let’s see the positive aspects of Hyundai sonata.

Even if the interior seems cheap and bare compared to 2002-2005 models, seats are comfortable and the general aspect is all right for those who prefer simplicity. The on road performance and handling of this car is very good.

The Hyundai Sonata’s new interior marks a major step up the quality ladder. You can notice some rough edges on a few plastic molds and a less-than-lustrous finish on some dash panels. But the overall look is highly competitive with most in the class and better than some.

Three round dials in the hooded instrument cluster communicate the necessities of operational data to the driver, with the largest the speedometer which is positioned inside a polished circle. To its left is the tachometer, and to its right conjoined water temperature and fuel gauges. In the lower dash to the left of the steering column are a bank of five switch plugs, one of them is the dash-light rheostat, and there also can be seen a flip-down storage bin. The ignition key slides into a slot placed properly, in the dash to the right of the steering column instead of on the steering column itself.

Fly with the Bentley

By: Lance Dixon
Have you ever seen the winged “B” badge of the Bentley and felt like flying? If yes, you are not the only one! People all around the world dream of owning a Bentley and why not, its stature is just too big not to be desired! Bentley Motors was established in England in January 1919. The founder was Walter Owen Bentley. Walter Owen was always fascinated by combustible engines and racing motorcycles, like most young boys are, and the Bentley was an outcome of this passion.

Bentley Motors has a history full of turns and twists and quite an interesting one too! Lets skim through its pages.

The manufacturing of the Bentley started with a 3-litre engine car which was very advanced for its times. It had four cylinders, single overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and twin-spark ignition via two magnetos. But it did make some noise. It is said, that this noise once irritated a nurse who was attending to a dying patient. To everyone’s surprise, a person present there had then said ‘A happy sound to die to”! Such was the beginning of the Bentley!

The Bentley was and is primarily known as a racing car. It has won many Le Mans trophies. The Le Mans is a 24-hour car endurance test held in France. It tests a car to it limits and those who can sustain the grill, command tremendous respect and awe in the automobile market. These races also provided a huge advertisement for the Bentley. The first Bentley, the 3-litre car, participated and came a very respectable 4th!

From then on, there was no looking back and Bentley motors went on to make some of the finest cars ever known. Sometimes the manufacturing was so slow that the cars were made just before delivery and at times even the demonstration cars had to be sold. But their popularity never ceased to soar. In reality fewer people bought them due to their high prices but still everyone secretly thought of taking control of one of these. After a few years, it was announced that Bentley Motors would retire from racing as they were falling short of money. As well as this, all the rash race driving was giving the common man a very bad impression about the car. Some people were wary of buying the car, as they saw it as a symbol of rough driving. Somewhat in order to break this image, Bentley Motors manufactured a bewitching limousine passenger car. But by this time, the great depression had taken its toll on Bentley Motors, leaving it in financial doldrums. Hence it was decided to sell the firm. Thus Rolls Royce took over Bentley Motors in a very dramatic manner in 1931. At that time Bentley was the most formidable rival of Rolls Royce and the world saw this as a mega deal for Rolls Royce. Actually it was good news for Bentley (in one way at least), that their baby would at least be in some experienced hands. Thus the Bentley was actually with Bentley Motors only till 1931.

The Volkswagen Group ,a German company, has been the owner of Bentley since 1998. The Bentleys are manufactured at the Crewe factory in England.

The various current and popular models of this car are Arnage, Azure, Continental GT, Continental Flying Spur and Continental GTC.

Luxury, elegance and comfort characterize all the Bentleys. Features like emergency fuel shut-off device, child safety door locks located on rear doors, engine immobilizer, front seatbelt height adjusters, fog lights, anti-theft protection, airbags with occupant sensors, computers keeping track of average speed, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption and range for remaining fuel, keyless entry operated via key fob, tire pressure monitor, separate driver/front passenger climate controls, rear window defroster, heated washer system, bluetooth incorporated telephone system, electric foldable mirrors, ashtrays, full maps, remote controlled DVD, several speakers, headlight cleaners, leather seats, tinted glass ,a variety of interior lighting, etc. make the Bentley, a precious buy. The Azure also has a sunroof/moonroof and a removable/convertible top!

The Bentley cars are immediately recognizable by the huge headlights they flaunt. But unlike their easy to spot features, they are very difficult and intricate to make! The Bentley is known as a highly reliable, sturdy and versatile car. Versatile, as it combines uncompromising luxury with enviable performance and reliability.

The Ferrari 328: The Perfect Exotic?

By: Rachel Colt
Los Angeles, CA--Ferrari is a world-renowned name as an Italian Sports Car manufacturer based out of Modena and Maranello, Italy. The company was founded in 1929 by Enzo Ferrari. The Ferrari line of vehicles are considered to be the most desired cars to both own and drive and are an ultimate status symbol of wealth. Simply having one in your driveway changes the impression people will have of you. The Ferrari 328 is less about status for most enthusiasts and more about trouble free ownership.

The classic line of Ferrari GTB/GTS seems to be the most common choice for the first time buyer of a Ferrari. Currently there have been more than 10,000 sold and there is a solid supply of these vehicles. When it comes to affordability, having this need in place will bring the overall cost down and make this a more affordable exotic car. Commenting on the efficiency of a 328 would be remiss if we first did not discuss its predecessor – the 308 which was one of Ferarris most successful vehicles.

Many people have considered the 308 to be the Ferrari to own, and suggested the 328 had some big shoes to fill after its success. The 308 after its debut in 1975 very quickly became the meat and potatoes vehicle for the company. Initially, the 308 was made of fiberglass, with a switch in 1977 to all metal construction. Currently the fiberglass models are in higher demand, simply because they make for lighter, faster vehicles. Further, their engines are not bothered by exhaust equipment sapping out the power. With the change to metal construction, the 308 began to decline. In 1985 came the first major redesign with the 328 GTB. The engine capacity was raised to 3185 cc, and the power went up to 270bhp making this the fastest vehicle from this Ferrari series. In the ‘80’s, the 328 became the super-car of the Ferrari and the single most successful selling vehicle for the company.

As a successor of the 308, the 328 also brings a considerable boost in power in comparison to the 308. If you are considering the purchase of a 328, your main consideration is going to be whether to buy a 328 or 308. The most substantial advantages to the 328 are its newness and its greater availability. These benefits are going to be offset by the higher cost of the vehicle. This car today will run about $60,000. If you are a buyer wanting greater performance and a more modern design, the 328 will be the look you are going for. Rarity of this exotic vehicle and a stiffer body are going to be its greatest advantages when you are considering the Ferrari line.

Peter Klamka, a Ferrari collector from Ann Arbor, Michigan, commented, “I regret selling my 1987 328. It was a very weak moment when I sold it. That car was bulletproof mechanically and incredibly fun to drive.”

Finding the perfect 328 will not be easy but there are numerous sources including websites like http://www.ferrarichat.com and the http://www.ferrarimarketletter.com

Range Rover – Drive your dream

By: Lance Dixon
The Range Rover is one of the best of the Land Rover models. Its popularity is unparalleled. Even today people remember the days when it was launched, with awe. It was the first of its kind, capable of both on/off road rigors. It was basically made to improve the Land Rover and make it more luxurious and attractive. And the world will agree that the people at British Leyland were successful at this, beyond any doubt!

1967 saw the first Range Rover prototype being built and after a number of them being tested, a prototype was agreed upon in 1969, with the Range Rover finally being launched in 1970. Geof Miller was its development engineer. As soon as it was launched, customers lined up to buy it. It was an instant hit with the middle class. Even the company was unaware that the car would garner so much positive response and loyalty. This car was originally a 3-door design but was soon promoted to a 5-door version due to the huge market demand.

This simple car is one that has an unrivalled, glorious history. The beauty and exclusivity of the Range Rover is reaffirmed by its presence at the Louvre museum in Paris, France. It is the only vehicle to be put in the Louvre and stands as a hallmark of sumptuous modern sculpture. This car is indeed a legend.

The Range Rover was marked by a great suspension design- an all coil spring and a permanent four-wheel drive. The all coil suspension system was indeed the best one with good performances both on and off road and with it being made for all types of roads. After its launch the Range Rover had also managed to win two awards, one for its chassis at the Earls Court motor show and the another one, a gold medal for best utility coachwork from the Institute of British Carriage and Automobile manufacturers. The Range Rover continued to ride high on this success for around 10 years. Surprisingly the Range Rover did very well even without any major changes or innovations in its design. All this underlines its tremendous popularity at that time!

It was only in 1980 that the Range Rover witnessed a whole lot of improvements in every area of its design. The newer cars became well–equipped and more refined. The second generation of Range Rovers was introduced in 1995. The Range Rover by then had improved in every possible way-be it luxury, engines or suspension as compared to the earlier generation. The very famous models of this car are the Range Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Supercharged, etc. There were built special editions like the Range Rover Bordeaux, Range Rover Westminster, Range Rover Linley, etc, which were made in limited numbers. All these models were luxurious, comfortable and smooth on all terrain.

If you have a penchant for the best and will not settle for anything less, the Range Rover offers world class models and gives you just what you are looking for!

Chicago Chevrolet: So You Finally Purchased That New Chevy...

By: L. Seals
You hoped, wished, and fantasized about that new Chevrolet for months and months. You paved a way to make your dream a reality...What's next?

First off, this is one big investment. Owning a new (or used) car may be second in financial priority to buying a home. It can cost thousands of your hard earned dollars. You need to protect it. Some people may say, "I'm a very good driver". Never mind that, you need to beware of other dangerous drivers that could hit you. Keep your new Chevy protected by making sure you have insurance to cover damages if you are at fault in an accident, or if someone else is at fault.

Every new Chevrolet comes with an owner's manual, and most used ones should. You need to know the basics of what's contained within the pages of this booklet. It wasn't printed for its good looks. This is the most surefire way to know that the maintainance of your car is being kept up. Many answers to the questions car owners ask mechanics can usually be found there in the glove box. If you know the basics, you can save yourself a lot of money, time, and headaches. Meeting the simple needs of your vehicle's coolant, oil, and fuel requirements can spare you of the more sophisticated problems down the road.

Practice driving your car while it's parked. I know this sounds crazy, but you need to familiarize yourself with your Chevrolet's basic features. This includes the blinkers, hazards, fuses, defrosters, etc. You may think it's common sense, but plenty of people feel around for these items while their actually in traffic, causing serious and sometimes fatal accidents.

Do you know where the spare tire and jack of your new Chevrolet is located? Usually underneath the vehicle or in the trunk, under the carpet. We never plan or expect to have a flat tire, but I can assure you the best time to figure out where the jack is, and how it works is never on a busy freeway. Be conscious of where these items are so that you can keep you and your vehicle out of harm's way.

Ever notice that car owner's cars often look sort of like them? If you're a teenaged girl, your car might look cute and sweet. If you are an older man, your car may look sophisticated and smooth. Your car is a part of you. It should also be as unique as you are. This is obviously not something that is mandatory, but it does seperate you and your Chevrolet from the rest of the pack. Don't get caught like I have on days when I've walked out the mall and tried getting into another person's car, just because it looked so similar to mine! Make yours original and unique.

The bottom line: After you buy your new or used Chevrolet, know the basics about your car in order to get the most satisfying driving experience out of it, avoid unnecessary headaches, and definately have fun with your new Chevy...

57 Chevy - An American Classic

By: Joyce Boulan
When the 1957 Bel Air went on sale, nobody - not even Chevrolet - expected to make history. Instead, it became one of the landmark images in American pop culture; one of the most recognizable cars the world has ever known.

Today, automakers still hail the 57 Chevy as a perfect example of good design and great timing coming together.

What we call the 57 Chevy was actually 19 distinct models. All 19 models were based on a single frame or platform, the basic structure of the car. The 1957 models were the final year in that frame's life. It had been the backbone for Chevrolet's model line for the 55, 56 and 57 model years. The only other car Chevrolet sold then was the Corvette.

Ford and Chrysler had all new frames and styling for their 57 models. They should have mopped the floor with the aged GM model, but Chevrolet outsold Ford by 126 cars in 1957. It sold 1,522,536 units of the various 57 Chevy models and 6,339 Corvettes.

The best-selling 1957 model was the Two-Ten four-door sedan, with a base price of $2,174.00. The least expensive was the $1,885.00 One-Fifty Utility two-door sedan. The most expensive 1957 model was the Bel Air Nomad two-door station wagon with a $2,757.00 base price. It was Chevrolet's lowest-selling model. Chevrolet sold just 6,103 Nomads that year, trailing the Corvette by 236 sales.

Some of the options for that year included, seat belts and a racing-style over-the-shoulder security harness. Other options included a tissue dispenser, electric razor, wheel spinners, backup lights and a gas filter. The cars came in 16 solid colors and 15 two-tone combinations.

Many 57 Chevy's featured a prism on the dashboard. It was intended to refract light from traffic signals so the driver could tell when the light changed without learning forward under the nearly vertical windshield.

The cars came with a choice of seven engines; a standard 235.5 cubic-inch 140-hp straight-six; 162-hp 265 cubic-inch V8, and eight versions of the 283 cubic-inch V8 with power ranging from 185 to 283 horsepower. The 57 Chevy was the first American car with fuel injection. The optional 283 cubic-inch fuel-injected V8 produced 283 horsepower. It was the second American engine to develop one horsepower per cubic inch of displacement, coming a year after the 355-hp 354 cubic-inch Chrysler Hemi.

Ten assembly plants built the 57 Chevy Family: Atlanta, Baltimore; Flint; Janesville, Wis.; Kansas City, Mo.; Los Angeles; Norwood, Ohio; Oakland, Calif., St. Louis, and Tarrytown, N.Y.

Many designers and car enthusiasts say they believe the 1955 Chevy was the best looking model, but the 57 model year brought more defined tailfins, bullet-shaped bumper protectors, bombsight hood ornaments and other elements that gave the bargain-priced Chevrolet just enough zing to grab buyers' fancy.

The 57 Chevy had style, the buzz born of racing success and demographics on their side. They hit the used-car market just as early baby boomers got driver's licenses and went looking for affordable wheels.

The 57 Chevy embodied the spirit of Chevrolet, great looking, groundbreaking and affordable.

Nissan Skyline GTR: A Racer That Is Affordable

By: Adrian Adams
If you’ve ever eyed a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari Testarossa, but thought the price was too steep, the Nissan Skyline GTR is a sports coupe that is considered reasonably priced. The Nissan Skyline GTR made headlines through the 70s and 90s as a Japanese-made car that quickly gained the respect of numerous car-related publications.

A wide-range of motoring magazines noted the performance and handling capacity of this particular vehicle, which earned a place beside European industry greats. When it comes to competitors in the business, the Nissan Skyline GTR was often compared to the Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi Lancer, Honda NSX, as well as the Mazda RX-7. Owning one of the earlier models delivers a nice piece of history.

Throughout the years, the Skyline brand of cars has a history that is actually connected to a different auto company from Nissan. The Prince automobile company was the first business to establish and create a variety of Skyline sedans. All of this came to an end when a merger involving Nissan-Datsun occurred. The naming of the GTR in the Nissan Skyline GTR brand name stands for Gran Turismo Racer. A hyphen was added to separate and make emphasis on the ’racer’ part of the name.

Soon, the car gained a reputation on the market, breeding additional models. The next GTR brought the public the PGC10 2000 GTR, which offered four doors. A two-door version of the automobile was created next and given the name, the KPGC10. The car also became a fixture on the racing scene. In a timeframe of one and a half years, the car had 33 victories under its belt. By the time the car was discontinued in 1972, the car had earned a total of 1000 wins. In Zama, you may visit the last of the original GTRs, which faired rather poorly in sales due to an energy crisis that stretched across the globe. Less than 200 sales of the KPGC110 2000GT-R were noted.

In 1989, after a spell from production, the KPGC110 Skyline GTR was reintroduced to the public as the Nissan Skyline R32. Advanced technology set it ahead of the competition, including on-demand four-wheel drive capabilities. The car was also reasonably priced at about $31,000. Throughout the 90’s, the Skyline GTR model blossomed, gaining a wealth of popularity, which was mostly in part to real wheel drive. To date, a new GTR has yet to become released. The last time a renovated version hit the scene came in 2002.

The Future of the Nissan Skyline GTR Line

As news traveled, it is said that an international Nissan GTR model will appear on the market by the end of 2007, showcasing a 2008 model. The traditional formula that once graced previous GTR versions will be no more. Many different modifications will be made, including deviations from the body type and sedan-style. The ’Skyline’ will also become absent from the naming of this new car model.

The slight changes that appeared in the R32 through R42 models of the Skyline GTR will also fade. An aggressive approach towards design will also be seen through the newer model. Nissan plans to introduce a car that no longer presents the traditional straight-6 engine, but offers consumers a twin-turbocharged V6. As for the registration of trademarks, the new GTR models will appear in Japan, Australia, Canada, and Europe, offering models to accommodate both left-handed and right-handed drivers. Also, in Japan, for the newer GTR models to thrive, they must also pass newer, tougher emission laws.

When it comes to marketing, the newer GTR models like the Skyline will carry along advertisements that promote the vehicle as being able to provide many advancements in car technology. During the Tokyo Motor Show in 2005, Nissan revealed a prototype for their new GTR line. Only a couple of changes to the unveiled concept is said to take place.

If you’ve ever owned or fell in love with the design and characteristics of the Nissan Skyline GTR, you might want to take a look at some of the enhancements that the new GTR will provide. To view the production version of the latest GTR, you should keep an eye out for the press coverage involving the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, as the car is primed for a final launch within the Japanese market during the fall of 2007. In Spring 2006, the latest GTR will make an appearance in the United States market.

Ferrari Enzo - more than a car

By: KenWilson
All car designers compete in their trial to give their clients the best car they’ve seen. Depending on how successful they’ve been in their quest to satisfy the passionate car buyer, their name has become known all over the world. Looking at the new Ferrari Enzo, it is obvious who’s won this race. Ferrari Enzo is not related to passion, it is passion itself - passion for cars, passion for drivers, passion for image and prestige…passion for whatever you say, because this car has got it all!

Driving a Ferrari Enzo is all about elegance and power. Just looking at one makes you feel like a Formula One racer and makes you realize the speed and greatness of such a car. The thrill, the excitement given by a Ferrari Enzo can’t be compared to anything alike in the world of cars. Maybe the word “car” is not even appropriate in this case as Ferrari Enzo is more than a car; it’s a feeling - a feeling of power, confidence and style.

Looking at one of the Ferrari Enzo pics you can’t help notice the extraordinary aerodynamic curves. Each Ferrari Enzo is specially designed to catch the speed of thunder in just a few seconds. Properly engineered to be light, to enhance speed and equipped with a strong V12 engine, the Ferrari Enzo can accelerate to 100km/h (that is 62.5 mph) in just 3.2 seconds. Doesn’t that deserve a big WOW!? Your lower jaw must be hanging, just like mine!

It’s worth mentioning that Ferrari Enzo is not one of those “drive itself” cars. This baby offers you a smooth and manageable drive experience, but being a Ferrari Enzo driver requires being a person who can take control. The person that drives a Ferrari Enzo best is a person that’s just as strong as the car and has a time ticking precision. It’s a matter of attitude. Driving a Ferrari Enzo says something about you, not just about the vehicle. Maybe that’s why so many people crave for it.

Its force of appeal is so strong that some of us can say that just being in a Ferrari Enzo (not necessarily driving it) is a dream come true. Just think of the many men that put Ferrari Enzo pics on the walls of their rooms or the ones that daily search the Internet for Ferrari Enzo pics or videos. It’s the car that they love and crave for. It is a statement of masculinity and style and many associate themselves with the idea of strength incorporated in this car. This vehicle has become an icon and not even the greatest stars (who have experienced luxury and glamour) can escape its charm. In fact, many celebrities have asked to be photographed near such a beautiful car, thus hoping to increase their popularity through Ferrari Enzo pics.

As all Ferrari models, the Enzo is destined to achieve great success on the world circuits. Many people actually instinctively first associate Formula One with the name Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari, the company’s late founder (after which the Enzo was named) claimed that he aimed to create “the best car in the world”. Maybe it’s not an exaggeration to say that, at least for the present moment, he has succeeded with the new Enzo. What can anyone ask for from a car in addition to what this one already has?

To draw the line and sum up, Ferrari is a legend and Ferrari Enzo is a renewal of this great legend. Ferrari Enzo pics are spread all over the world in many magazines and on numerous websites. Everyone longs to have this most luxurious speed car. For now, Enzo owns the kingdom of speed and it’s probably going to reign over many races from now on before a new triumphant model can take it down.
